Oslo Pride cancels all events

Two people were killed, ten seriously injured and eleven slightly injured after a man shot at people at several issuers in central Oslo night to Saturday.

– We are shaken and have been told by the police that all events are recommended to be canceled, says leader of Oslo Pride, Inger Kristin Haugsevje to TV 2.

Oslo Pride therefore asks people who had planned to travel to Oslo city center to attend events not to come.

– We take the police’s advice and encouragement seriously and ask people not to gather in central Oslo.

Haugsevje is now asking people to mark Pride at home instead.

– This means that you must gather at home in private rooms, take care of each other and I again urge you to take the police advice seriously and not gather in central Oslo.

Called for extra resources

Only Pride is recommended to cancel events. The police recommend other major events in Oslo today to go as planned. They state that they have implemented many measures in central Oslo.

– We have called in a lot of extra resources, and we had planned that with Pride in mind. These will still show up at work even though Pride has been canceled, said police inspector Tore Soldal.

– There is significantly tightened security on several objects, he added.

There are several other major other events in Oslo on Saturday, including Tons of Rock and international football in women’s.

According to the police, the fact that Pride received a recommendation for cancellation is that it is still early in the investigation phase.

– The uncertainty is that so early we know little about what is happening, Soldal said.

Tough for the crooked movement

In a press release, Oslo Pride writes that the police’s recommendations are that they cancel all planned events.

– Oslo Pride has received clear advice and recommendation from the police that the parade, Pride park and other events in connection with Oslo Pride be canceled. Oslo Pride therefore asks everyone who has planned to participate in or watch the parade not to attend. All events in connection with Oslo Pride are canceled.

Leader of the association FRI, Inge Alexander Gjestvang, tells TV 2 that their thoughts go to everyone who is affected.

– First and foremost, our deepest sympathy and warm thoughts go to all relatives and all who are affected by this tragedy here in one way or another. It’s tough for the queer movement to experience this.

– Stand together

Gjestvang now encourages love.

– We encourage everyone to stand together, take care of each other and that we come back later – proud and visible, but right now there is no time for that.

– Have you experienced a lot of excitement around Pride in the past week?

– There has generally been a lot of comments and opposition to Pride, but we have received a lot of support, which we are very happy to see – as major players, and with the fact that you are out and support the right to be who you are and love whoever you want.

The reactions and statements of support are many after the night’s serious incident. Gjestvang thanks for the support.

– We are happy to see support coming from all quarters. It is important to recognize the incident that has now occurred and how it affects those who are affected, but also those who are more indirectly affected.
