The director of operations describes the situation as so serious and threatening that the police had to use warning shots to take control.
On Tuesday night a police patrol observed a brawl in Brugata. Five people must have been involved.
As they approached, the police saw that one of them had a knife and was acting threateningly. The person with the knife is said to have chased after another and threatened that person.
– At 1:11 am, the police patrol observes five people arguing and, when they approach to end the fight, they see someone threatening and running after another person with a knife, operations manager Gjermund Stokkli tells VG.
– To control the situation, the police fire a warning shot, he says.
After the police fired the shot, the person with the knife is said to have let it go. He was immediately arrested by the police.
No one was physically injured in the accident.
– It’s not every day that the police fire warning shots, but the situation here was so serious and threatening, and things happened so quickly that the patrol had to resort to warning shots, says Stokkli.
The Special Police Affairs Unit was regularly informed.
