Oslo municipality turns around: Fox Mikkel escapes the death sentence

After staying on Bygdøy for some time, the fox Mikkel has managed to create great commitment. Several dog owners have warned against the fox who they believe is behaving aggressively after the little Pomeranian dog Sol was attacked and killed by the fox in his own garden.

Catch attempt

The fox, which behaves quite tame, is according to several aggressive and sick. The question of whether it can have rabies has been discussed frequently on social media and among neighbors. Recently, the Urban Environment Agency decided to kill it.

A trap was set in an attempt to catch the fox. Then the fox’s supporters on Bygdøy took action and hired a lawyer on behalf of the fox. One has also been created signature campaign. It was Avisa Oslo that first mentioned the case.

Bygdøy divided in two

Andreas Gyrre lives on Bygdøy and has seen for himself what he thinks must be the fox in question, both in his own garden but also on a walk.

– We have crouched it several times and one time our little dog Poppy walked eight meters from the fox without a leash, says Gyrre who emphasizes that they have a dog of the same type that was taken by the fox.

Other TV 2 meetings want the fox removed immediately.

– I think it’s scary and assumes that it may have rabies or is seriously ill. The fact that it attacks innocent people is frightening to say the least, says Tarje.

Hired own lawyer

Lawyer Vegard Bø Bahus has now been hired on behalf of the fox’s supporters. He says the fox is a natural part of the environment in which it is observed.

– It’s about the natural diversity on Bygdøy. It is about the fox also having a place in the forest, says Bahus.

Now the fox can live for the time being. On Friday night, the urban environment agency turned around and took in the trap. According to Aftenposten, this is because the fox has not been caught. TV 2 has not succeeded in getting in touch with the Urban Environment Agency.

– That’s very good. They had an idea that the fox might have been aggressive and sick, but from what my clients know, there is no sign that the fox is sick, the lawyer continues.

Receives support among the country’s richest

Christian Ringnes has also been involved in the case. He lives on Bygdøy himself and is concerned with keeping the fox. He often sees foxes in his own garden and when he goes for a walk.

– They are an important part of nature here, and were here before us. When you live near a forest, you must also give the wild animals the right to live, whether it is foxes or deer and badgers that are also constantly seen, Ringnes writes in a text message to TV 2.

He warns against putting out fox traps.

– To set a trap, which can just as easily take innocent foxes, dogs and cats, in the hope of killing a single fox that you do not know about is sick. In my opinion, it is completely heartbreaking and irresponsible, Ringnes continues.
