Oslo and Viken are asking the government for crisis help for public transport

In a joint letter, Oslo and Viken ask the new government to keep the public transport service on its feet until the summer. The cost can be around NOK 500 million.

Oslo and Viken will keep the current public transport offer. But then they need money from the government.

“We are seriously concerned that a drastic downscaling of the offer will further weaken public transport’s competitiveness against car traffic.”

This is stated in a letter to the Minister of Transport from Oslo Municipality and Viken County Municipality. The letter is signed by the Transport Agency in Oslo, Sirin Stav (MDG), and the County Council for Transport in Viken, Olav Skinnes (Sp).

In the three-page letter, they express deep concern about the future public transport services in Oslo and Viken if there is no crisis help from the government when the supplementary bill to the state budget is presented at the beginning of November.

This happens after Aftenposten wrote on Sunday that Ruter’s offer could be sharply reduced next year.

In the proposal for next year’s state budget from the previous government, there is no such compensation. Therefore, Oslo and Viken are now asking for money to maintain the offer until the first half of 2022.
