OSCE staff in Donbas captured

The Russians captured the staff of the OSCE

Russian forces captured a number of members of the OSCE monitoring mission in Lugansk and Donetsk. Threats to Mission personnel are also reported.

Members of the OSCE SMM were captured in Donetsk and Lugansk, the Organization is seeking their release. This was announced by Deputy British Ambassador to the OSCE Deirdre Brown, reports Reuters.

“We have received disturbing reports that Russian proxies in Donbas are threatening Mission personnel, equipment and premises and that Russian forces have captured SMM personnel,” Deirdre Brown said.

It is noted that the Organization expresses deep concern and “uses all available channels to facilitate the release of its employees.”

Previously it was reported that Russia blocked the extension of the mandate of the OSCE SMM.
