What happened to Will Smith and Chris Rock?
For Will Smith, the 94th edition of the Oscar Gala was a very emotional evening. He won the Oscar for best actor and received it in tears. During his acceptance speech, Smith apologized to the Academy and his colleagues, but did not mention comedian Chris Rock.
Moments before, he’d stepped onstage to punch Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Chris Rock compared her to GI Jane, a role for which actress Demi Moore shaved her hair off. Jada Pinkett Smith suffers from alopecia, a condition that causes her hair to fall out and clearly couldn’t help but laugh at the joke.
Will Smith seemed to smile at first, but then stormed onto the stage to punch Chris Rock in the face. When he was back in his place, he said twice, “Never take my wife’s name in your damn mouth again!”.
