The ceremony did not take place at a gala on the exhibition grounds in Düsseldorf, but on Friday virtually and without an audience in the Maritime Museum in Hamburg.
The “European Yacht of the Year 2021” for sailing yachts and the “European Powerboat of the Year 2021” were chosen in several categories. The industry likes to talk about the “Oscars of the water sports industry”. A specialist jury made up of test directors and editors-in-chief of the leading twelve sailing and eight motorboat magazines in Europe will decide on the prestigious awards.
The Bavaria C42 won the family cruiser (from around 190,000 euros). It impressed the jury with its “high level of comfort and perfect sailing properties”. The Contest 55 CS (from two million euros) won the Luxury Cruiser category. “All-encompassing, uncompromising luxury”, as one sailing expert sums it up. Among the more than 200 new motorboat models, the Saxdor 200 Sport won the category up to 8 meters, and the Turbocraft Silverfin won the large motor yachts (around 400,000 euros).
