Oscars 2023 | These are the artists who could take the Oscar for best song

Big international stars like Rihanna, Taylor Swift, The weekend or Lady Gaga are among the finalists for the award for the best song of Oscars 2023. Therefore, their themes for the films “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, “The Wild Girl”, “Avatar: The Sense of Water” and “Top Gun: Maverick”, respectively, compete for the statuette in the next edition of the Hollywood Academy Awards, which will be held on March 12 next year.

From this list of 15 finalists, only five will be named which will be announced on February 24 by the Academy. If cut, it would be the first nomination for the vast majority of artists, such as Drake, who participates with Time, from the film ‘Amsterdam’, or the aforementioned Rihanna and Swift (although these last two were also nominated in the same category for the Golden Globes), nominated for the songs ‘Lift Me Up’ and ‘Carolina’. The Weeknd, on the other hand, who participates with his song ‘Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength)’, had already opted for an Oscar seven years ago for ‘Earned It’, from the film ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’.

Lady Gaga -selected for her song ‘Hold My Hand’- also could repeat, in his case for the fourth time, at a gala from which she managed to win the award in 2018 for ‘Shallow’, a song from ‘A Star Is Born’, for which she was also nominated for Best Actress. Before her, in 2015, she debuted as an Oscar nominee for the song ‘Til It Happens to You’, for the documentary ‘The Hunting Ground’. In addition, the first installment of ‘Top Gun’, for whose sequel Gaga is nominated, has already managed to win the Oscar for best song in 1986 for ‘Take My Breath Away’, by the group Berlin.

Two of the songs shortlisted for the upcoming Hollywood Academy Awards were co-written by the directors Of films. These are ‘Ciao Papa’, a song taken from Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pinocchio’ that the director wrote together with Mark Gustafson, and the aforementioned ‘Lift Me Up’ by Rihanna, in which Ryan Coogler participated in the drafting.
