So is the nomination of nine actors of diverse ethnic origins, in a year in which the golden statuettes are delivered two months later than usual because of the coronavirus pandemic.

In addition to the Dolby Theater, the gala will also take place from the main train station in Los Angeles, the Union Station, and from several locations around the world, including one in London, in the United Kingdom.

1. A posthumous Oscar for Boseman?
Chadwick Boseman is nominated for best actor for his role in the drama Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (“The mother of the blues”), the last one she performed before dying of cancer at age 43 last year.

In the film, he plays an ambitious trumpeter from the quartet that accompanies blues singer Ma Rainey.

His work has already been recognized at the Golden Globes and other awards.

Chadwick Boseman has a posthumous nomination for his role in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”

Boseman rose to fame for his role in the film Black Panther and he is the favorite for the Oscar this year.

2. Historic nominations in the leadership category
Only five women have been nominated in the directing category throughout history and only one has won: Kathryn Bigelow por The Hurt Locker (“Scare Zone”) in 2010.

This year, two of the five directors who aspire to the category are women: the director of oroigen chino, Chloe Zhao, and the British filmmaker Emerald Fennell.

Zhao, the big favorite, led “Nomadland“, a drama that tells the story of a woman who lives in her truck and leads a nomadic lifestyle.

The 39-year-old director is nominated in three other categories, including Best Picture, Best Editing and Best Adapted Screenplay. If he succeeds at all, he would equal a record set by Walt Disney, the only person to win four Oscars at the same ceremony.

Fennell is nominated for Promising Young Woman (“Beautiful revenge” or “A promising young woman”), which at the Bafta Awards was recognized as the best British film.

A record of 76 nominations they were for women this year, according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

3. The recognition of Viola Davis
This is the fourth nomination for Viola Davis, making her most nominated black actress in the history.

The other two previously nominated are the screenwriter James Ivory (Call Me By Your Name) and the director Agnes Varda. Both were 89 years old when they were recognized by the Academy, according to the newspaper Los Angeles Times.
