The Japanese woman took the golden statuette for her work on Akira Kurosawa’s film Ran
Japanese costume designer Amy Wada, who won an Oscar for her work on Akira Kurosawa’s “Run,” has died at the age of 84, Reuters and the Associated Press reported, citing Japanese media.
The publications quote relatives of the designer, who report that she died on November 13, without giving a reason for her death.
Amy Wada, born Emiko Noguchi, began working as a student at the University of the Arts in her hometown of Kyoto.
In addition to the legendary Akira Kurosawa, the designer has created costumes for international films, including Peter Greenway and Zhang Imou, as well as for theater and opera.
Vada continues to work after the transfer of the 80s.
She became famous thanks to the samurai costumes she created for Akira Kurosawa’s film “Run” (1985), inspired by William Shakespeare’s “King Lear”.
When she received her Oscar in 1986 for her work on the film, the designer, holding the statuette in her hand, said with a smile, “He doesn’t need my costumes.”
