Oscar-winning actor Emma Thompson has spent the last few weeks filming The Fisherwoman in Finland.
The actor enjoyed his time in Finland so much that he wrote a letter to the Finns, which Helsingin Sanomat published. The film was shot in Koli in North Karelia.
– I received support, constantly, from the exceptional nature of the environment and people. From the moment I arrived in Koli, I was greeted with kindness and warmth. The enormous hospitality and humor of the people made Koli feel more and more like home, Thompson writes.
Thompson, who is in love with Finland, also praises the rugged landscapes of Koli.
– The director and I reminded ourselves by these landscapes every day that this was a life-enriching experience rather than a job. The beauty around us felt profound.
He also said that the movie set in Minnesota was shot in Finland because there was no snow in Minnesota.
After filming, Thompson headed to Jorois, her husband, the film’s producer Greg Wise with. In Joroi, they have snowshoeed and enjoyed the smoke sauna and open air.
