Oscar Ortiz promises a “total reorganization” of the FMLN – Diario La Página – 2024-03-06 00:21:39

The general secretary of the FMLN, Óscar Ortiz, gave a press conference this Monday where he accepted yesterday’s election results, Sunday, and that his party has not won a single mayoralty in the country, for which he promised a “total reorganization” of the institute left-wing politician facing future electoral processes.

“The results have not been the most favorable for us in terms of formally winning mayoralties and deputies,” he said, and at the same time added that the party receives the votes of Salvadorans “with humility.”

«Surely, after these results, there will have to be a new beginning, a total reorganization of our political project looking towards the future. Surely we are going to deepen the complete renewal of the party, which we have already begun,” he promised.

Within the new organization, Ortiz stated that the ways of working and organizing will change “and how to connect with the different sectors and the different territorial leaderships.”

For now, the FMLN will have to settle for minimal political power in the territories, through some councilors who managed to enter the plural municipal councils. Such is the case of Simón Paz, who registered on form B to obtain a position on the council of San Salvador Centro, which was won by Mario Durán, from Nuevas Ideas.

“We are going to wait to see how we close with the data but, for example, Simón Paz did not win as mayor but surely Simón Paz is going to be an excellent councilor and we are going to place more councilors, the same in San Marcos, the southern zone, in Soyapango, San Martín, Ilopango but it is an issue that we have not yet closed,” said Ortiz.

Regarding deputies for the Central American Parliament (Parlacen), the general secretary of the Front announced that the party will have some deputies.

Finally, Ortiz thanked the people who voted for the FMLN political project in the March 3 elections. “To thank the hundreds and thousands of colleagues who helped us take care of the votes in the different voting centers, they remained firm, without sparing efforts and sacrifices, for them a big hug and recognition from our front,” he said.
