While the Golden Globe Awards are just around the corner, as they will be held on January 7, the film industry is awaiting nominations for the Oscar Awards granted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
This year the 96th edition of the most prominent and prestigious Awards will be held. The ceremony is scheduled for March 10 at the Dolby Theater, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. It will be broadcast live like every year on the ABC signal and with Jimmy Kimmel at the helm as presenter for the fourth time.
When are the Oscar nominees announced?
On December 21, 2023, the Academy announced through a press release the list of shortlists that will compete in the following 10 categories: Documentary feature film, Documentary short, International film, Makeup and hairstyle, Sound, Original score, Original song , Animated short, Live action short and Visual effects.
The extensive list is available at official website of the Oscars. However, the official nominations will be announced on January 23, while the voting period will be between February 12 and 27, as mentioned Frames.
At the moment the name of Barbie, whose film has the highest number of nominations at the Golden Globes, garners mentions in five categories.
Meanwhile, films such as Killers of the Flower Moon, Oppenheimer, Poor Things, Saltburn and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse are on the shortlist in the original Score category.
As a preamble to the Oscars we have the Golden Globes and also the “Honorary Oscar” ceremony in which golden statuettes are awarded in recognition of career achievements and exceptional contributions to the industry.
