Let someone else say that wishes do not come true! As Oscar Isaac At the beginning of 2019 in an interview about his Netflix-Film Triple Frontier When asked which video game adaptation he would like to star in, he didn’t hesitate and named Hideo Kojima’s acclaimed stealth shooter “Metal Gear Solid” as his first choice. Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts publicly perceived this wish and replied that although the casting process had not yet started, it was Isaac’s turn to show what he can do.
Fast forward 21 months and a pandemic: Industry portal Deadline reports from reliable sources that Isaac is actually the main candidate for the role of elite soldier Solid Snake in Sony’s Metal Gear Solid is.
Born in Guatemala, Isaac has made a name for himself in acclaimed indie films such as Drive, Inside Llewyn Davis, Ex Machina and A Most Violent Year a name, but did not shy away from appearances in big blockbuster productions like X-Men: Apocalypse and Disney’s Star-Wars-Sequels. Although after working on the Star-Wars– Seemed to be a little disaffected with movies (no wonder, as the movies haven’t tapped his character’s potential), he’ll be collaborating with Disney soon to lead the Marvel series “Moon Knight” For Disney+ continue. Both this series and HBO’s re-adaptation of Ingmar Bergman’s miniseries “Scenes of a Marriage” Isaac’s next projects will be imminent, so it will definitely be a while before he puts on the Solid Snake eye patch.
But with a long wait for video game adaptations, Sony knows each other very well. The recently wacky one Uncharted-Film was in development for around ten years and changed director six times during that time. The Metal-Gear-Solid-Film has even been planned for a total of 14 years. In the meantime, Konami slowed the film adaptation for fear that a bad film could negatively affect the image of the acclaimed games. However, that such a cinematic game as “Metal Gear Solid” would switch to the other medium one day seemed inevitable.
In contrast to Uncharted, changed Metal Gear Solid not its director umpteen times. Rather, Jordan Vogt-Roberts became the filmmaker with Hollywood most epic beard, already committed in 2014, three years before Kong: Skull Island came to the cinemas and showed that he also has a knack for big budget cinema. Since then he has remained unchanged as the director of the film. Jordan-Vogt is an avowed fan of the games and has made a great promise to stay true to Hideo Kojima’s ideas. Kojima himself has the screenwriter Derek Connolly (Jurassic World) as a consultant.
Kojima’s preferred candidate for the role was actually Hugh Jackman, but he admitted that he was open to other ideas. Isaac is a great actor who hasn’t had much luck with his blockbuster roles so far. Hopefully that will happen with his appearance in Denis Villeneuves Dune change next year. Its cast in Metal Gear Solid definitely increases the priority the project has at Sony.
