Los Angeles (AP) – The election of this year’s Oscar winners is over, but nobody knows the outcome of the vote. By Tuesday evening (local time), the ballot papers from the more than 9,500 Oscar jurors had to be received at the Beverly Hills Film Academy.
Until the 95th trophy gala on Sunday, employees of the auditing company PricewaterhouseCoopers will count the votes in 23 prize categories to determine the winners. The result is brought directly to the Oscar ceremony in sealed envelopes.
The countdown to the gala has begun in front of the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, where the stars will walk the red carpet. Several blocks of Hollywood Boulevard, popular with tourists, have already been cordoned off. Grandstands are erected behind barricades and the promenade is decorated.
The Oscar Academy on Tuesday announced additional celebrity contributors who will be handing out awards on stage, including Antonio Banderas, Nicole Kidman and Sigourney Weaver. Stars such as Glenn Close, Riz Ahmed, Dwayne Johnson and Michael B. Jordan had previously been named “presenters”. The 95th Academy Awards is hosted by comedian and presenter Jimmy Kimmel.
The science fiction film “Everything Everywhere All at Once” is the favorite with eleven nominations. The German anti-war film “Nothing New in the West” and the tragic comedy “The Banshees of Inisherin” each have a chance of winning in nine categories. Films like “The Fabelmans”, “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” were also nominated several times.
