Today, March 30th (Saturday), the Osaka Regional Meteorological Observatory announced the blooming of cherry blossoms. It was observed to be three days later than normal and 11 days later than last year, making it the first time in eight years that the flowers have bloomed late since 2016 (flowering on March 30th).

Last year, Yoshino cherry trees were observed to be in full bloom at 41 meteorological observatories, including Sendai and Niigata, and in full bloom at 23 meteorological observatories, including Fukushima, by March 30th, and this year the blooms are later than last year in each location.
This year, while mid-February was the warmest on record, there were many days with lower-than-normal temperatures from late February to early March. Although there was a temporary high temperature day in mid-March, just before flowering, the temperature continued to be lower than average again, which appears to have delayed flowering.
Starting this weekend, flowers will continue to bloom in various parts of the Kanto region.
Weather News’ cherry blossom forecast shows that this year’s cherry blossoms will bloom at or slightly later than normal in eastern and western Japan. In many places in northern Japan and Hokuriku, the weather is expected to be earlier than normal.
Temperatures are on the rise towards the beginning of April, and it is expected that more and more flowers will start blooming. If you want to go cherry blossom viewing, be sure to check the blooming status and weather forecast carefully so you don’t miss your chance.
