(CNN Spanish) – The Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) announced on Friday that it had authorized a request issued by the Secretary General, Luis Almagro, to launch an investigation into the allegations against him, which he rejected.

The investigation — which will be carried out by an external company — responds to an anonymous complaint according to which Almagro violated the ethical standards of the OAS by maintaining a romantic relationship with an employee of the Organization.

What is the OAS Inter-American Democratic Charter?

Almagro referred to the matter this Friday in the plenary session of the Permanent Council, confirming that he had had an intimate relationship for three years with a person from his work environment and that he had done everything necessary to carry out a transparent investigation. He argued that he did not violate the OAS code of ethics.

In October, the OAS Secretary General already announced that he was providing all the necessary information on this claim.
