Ortenaukreis imposes curfew from 11 p.m.

Legal concerns have been resolved by the Ministry of Social Affairs

After the districts of Lörrach and Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald as well as the urban district of Freiburg decided on a curfew from 11 p.m., the Ortenau district followed suit. From Saturday (October 24th, 2020), catering establishments will have to close their shops at 11 p.m. The so-called lane serving of drinks is also prohibited.

The state health office reported in its case number report on Thursday evening (October 22nd, 2020) that the Ortenaukreis exceeded the limit of 50 new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants (incidence) for the first time within the last seven days. With 240 new infections reported, the 7-day incidence in the Ortenau district is now “55.7”.

However, the District Office was not sure whether the curfew was a proportionate measure for freedom of occupation. Therefore, the Ortenaukreis contacted the Ministry of Social Affairs directly. These had clarified the legal concerns, so that the district has imposed a curfew from 11 p.m. for restaurants including a ban on selling alcohol outside.

The general decree comes into force on October 24th.
