Orsted submits a 1.5 GW Long Island bid for the next round in New York

Ord has presented a final proposal for its 1,485 MW wind project on Long Island, which would provide renewable energy to up to one million homes in New York and further strengthen the Danish developer’s northeast axis.

Coming into commercial operation in 2033, the Long Island Wind offshore wind farm would bring several billion dollars of investment to the state, adding to Orsted‘s current investments and commitments in New York. This includes more than $700 million of direct investments that Orsted is making in Long Island in Suffolk County alone for its Sunrise Wind project.

The proposed investments are subject to the selection of Long Island Wind by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA))to the successful execution of an Offshore Wind Renewable Energy Certification agreement with NYSERDA and a final investment decision with Orsted.

David Hardy, group executive vice president and general manager of the Americas at Orsted, said: “America’s clean energy future is being created here in New York, and we are proud to have played a key role in position the Empire State as a national leader in offshore wind energy.”

“We are poised to build on this momentum with our new Long Island Wind project, creating thousands of high-quality jobs from Long Island to the Capital Region, driving significant investment in the chain supplies and workers, and inspires “New York toward its ambition. clean energy goals.”

Orsted operates South Fork Wind, New York’s first offshore wind farm and the first commercial-scale offshore wind project in the United States, and is building Sunrise Wind, which will become the second offshore wind farm in New York.

Together with Long Island Wind, the Orsted projects are estimated to meet approximately 6% of New York’s total electricity demand.
