Oropharyngeal Cancer Caused by HPV and Kissing: Symptoms and Risks According to Oncologist Anton Ivanov

It is not without reason that oropharyngeal cancer most often occurs in young people of both sexes. This disease is caused by the human papillomavirus, which is transmitted through kissing. About it “Gazeta.ru” said oncologist Anton Ivanov.

“It’s quite easy to get HPV: just a passionate kiss or unprotected oral sex with a carrier of the virus. Therefore, sexually active people are at risk,” — noted the doctor.

According to the specialist, human immunity is able to overcome the virus that causes cancer. However, if we are talking about a large number of sexual partners, the risk increases. Carcinogens from tobacco smoke also lead to malignant degeneration of the lymphoid tissue of the tonsils, the oncologist added.

“The following symptoms should alert you: pain and discomfort when swallowing, a feeling of a lump in the throat, the appearance of a lump on the neck, a strong putrid odor from the mouth, the presence of blood or pus in the saliva, a change in voice, it becomes hoarse, muffled, difficulty opening the mouth and swallowing food” Ivanov listed.
