Russian defender Dmitry Orlov, who was traded by Washington to Boston, spoke about the reaction of Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin to his departure.
“Everyone was in a state of shock, no one expected this,” Orlov said. – I first found out that I was not playing with Anaheim. I let Ovechkin know, and he immediately called me back on FaceTime. I started asking how. I said not yet known. When the exchange took place at six in the evening, I wrote about it to our group. The guys immediately came home to me. We sat down for a bit and talked.
It was actually sad to leave Washington. This was my second home. First home in America. But now I have a new challenge in front of me – this is Boston. God bless us to continue the way we are now, pick up the pace for the playoffs and shoot for the Stanley Cup.”
On February 24, Washington traded 31-year-old Russian forward Garnet Hathaway to Boston. For them, the club received forward Craig Smith and three draft picks: in the first round in 2023, in the second round in 2025 and in the third round in 2024.
