Boston Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller was rushed to hospital Friday night after being punched in the head by Washington Capitals Dimitri Orlov.
The incident occurred midway through the second period in the fourth game of the series between the two teams.
Miller was carrying the puck and entering the opposing zone when he was hit in the head by Orlov.
A stampede then ensued near the Capitals’ net, as Miller received help from healers near the blue line.
Miller returned to the locker room on his feet, but the Boston organization said minutes later the 33-year-old had been rushed to hospital for extensive testing.
Orlov, meanwhile, received a four-minute penalty.
