Who is Orlen looking for? Among the requirements for candidates, the announcement included, inter alia, higher education and a minimum of 5 years of professional experience (including at least three years in managerial, independent or self-employed positions).

Orlen also expects the new president to be characterized by high resistance to stress and the ability to work under time pressure. He is also expected to be crisis management and morale.

Employees and associates of parliamentary and senatorial offices, employees and members of political party authorities as well as persons from trade union authorities in the Orlen capital group were excluded from the recruitment.

According to the regulations, the new president will be selected from among the proposed candidates by an extraordinary general meeting of the company composed of representatives of its sole shareholder, Orlen.

The Management Board of Polska Press Grupa currently works in a two-person composition. In addition to the president, it is also made up of Dorota Kania, appointed in April. At the end of April, Magdalena Chudzikiewicz and the then vice-president Dariusz Świąder left the management board.

The acquisition of Polska Press by Orlen took place two months ago. The transaction was approved by the president of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection.

In April this year. at the request of the Ombudsman, the Court of Competition and Consumer Protection (division of the District Court in Warsaw) suspended the unconditional consent of the President of UOKiK for the purchase of Polska Press by PKN Orlen.

Orlen believes, however, that the suspension of the registration proceedings, which is related to the court’s decision, is only of a formal nature and is subject to appeal.

The President of PKN Orlen, Daniel Obajtek, has repeatedly emphasized that despite the court’s decision, the acquisition of Polska Press is effective. – Therefore, the court’s decision is pointless and does not affect our actions or the effectiveness of the acquisition of this entity – he wrote in April on Twitter.

Along with the change of the owner, there were also personnel changes in the publishing house. At the end of April, Dorota Kania decided to change three editors-in-chief of Polska Press dailies.

Polska Press publishes 20 regional dailies, incl. “Dziennik Bałtycki”, “Dziennik Łódzki”, “Dziennik Zachodni”, “Gazeta Krakowska”, “Głos Wielkopolski” and “Kurier Lubelski”.

The company also publishes about 500 websites, mainly Naszemiasto.pl and portals of individual press titles.

The Polska Press capital group employs 2,126 people. In 2019, it achieved a net profit of PLN 8.59 million. Revenues from newspaper sales decreased by 8.9%, and from advertising – by 4.9%.
