Jeff Teague’s adventure in Orlando has not started when it has already ended. The veteran point guard, immersed in the transfer of Evan Fournier to the Boston Celtics, has been cut by the Florida franchise; Shams Charania reports from The Athletic.
At 32, Teague will be free to decide his future after a step with more shadows than lights for the Celtics. He came to the Massachusetts franchise as an important piece of the rotation, in which he had to cover Kemba Walker’s breaks. It is the role it has had, but its performance has not been as expected; so much so that at times he stopped counting for Brad Stevens. In 34 games played, he has averaged 6.9 points and 2.1 assists.
Now your short-term present is up in the air. Before signing with the Greens for the current season, Teague expressed his desire to play for a winning team with title aspirations. In Boston he had that scenario, but he has not taken advantage of it to the point that they felt the need to continue counting on him. Finding accommodation in a set that wants to reinforce the position of point guard it must be your way out. A different matter is that whoever sees himself in that position wants to bet on him.
A 2015 All-Star playing for the Atlanta Hawks, Teague has had several downline seasons. It has been through Indiana, Minnesota and Boston (with a short return to Atlanta). He still has basketball left, but he can’t quite find his place.
