Orion, the new big version of ChatGPT could arrive in December

OpenAI is preparing to unveil Orion, a new artificial intelligence of unparalleled power, scheduled for December. Limited to partner companies initially, this model could revolutionize the sector while promising personalized and advanced tools, demonstrating OpenAI’s growing ambitions towards a promising technological future.

OpenAI will launch its Orion model in December, a system up to 100 times more powerful than GPT-4 and initially designed for businesses

OpenAI plans to launch its new artificial intelligence model, Orionin December. However, unlike its predecessors, it will not be immediately accessible via ChatGPT. Initially, only OpenAI partner companies will be able to access Orion to develop tailor-made products. This model would be up to 100 times more powerful than GPT-4marking a significant step forward towards the development of artificial general intelligence (AGI).

As The Verge indicates, Orion could be hosted on Microsoft’s Azure platform from November, a month before its launch, would thus constitute one of the first stages of deployment. Orion was trained in part with synthetic data generated by the o1 model, known as “Strawberry”, launched a few months ago. This paves the way for a new era of advancements in artificial intelligence, where tools like ChatGPT’s advanced voice mode could see even more evolution in future versions.

Orion: a key step towards advanced artificial intelligence

Orion’s rise coincides with significant changes within OpenAIwhich recently raised $6.6 billion in funding and restructured itself as a for-profit entity. This financial development will allow the company to focus on advanced and adaptable models like Orion, which could also enrich the user experience on ChatGPT, which now has an official application for Windows and options to use ChatGPT for free on PC and mobile, bringing this technology even closer to users.

Additionally, the departure of key figures such as OpenAI CTO Mira Murati and Research Director Bob McGrew marks a period of internal renewal. Nonetheless, the company continues to move forward with its plans for Orion, which could pave the way for tools and applications with advanced reasoning capabilities and customizations, providing an accessible and practical approach for businesses and end users. The expectation is that Orion will become a central element of the OpenAI ecosystemfacilitating the creation of more powerful and specific products in various sectors.
