Orihuela commemorates World Autism Awareness Day

April 2, 2024

The Councilor for Social Welfare, Agustina Rodríguez, attended, together with the president of the LiberTea Association, Pilar Soriano, the reading of the manifesto on the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day, which is commemorated today, April 2. Both have been accompanied by members of the LiberTea Association, as well as by different councilors of the Municipal Corporation.

Pilar Soriano was in charge of carrying out the reading of the manifesto that states that today, April 2, “we come together to recognize and celebrate the proximity of autism in our lives.” In this sense, she adds that through this text “we call for a collective commitment that celebrates diversity and contributes to promoting the real inclusion of all people in our society. Because autism is a natural and valuable part of human diversity and is present, in one form or another, in the lives of all people.”

The autism manifesto also focuses on “we can contribute to building a world in which every individual is valued and respected for who they are. A more inclusive and understanding society”, so “on this World Autism Awareness Day 2024, we raise our voices as a show of solidarity and commitment to people with autism and their families. Because, every day, autism is close to you.”

For her part, the Councilor for Social Welfare has also announced that the Orihuela City Council will be illuminated in blue tonight to give greater visibility to this commemoration.

Conference April 5

On the other hand, the Department of Social Welfare has organized a conference to be given by the psychiatrist at the Institute of Psychiatry and Mental Health of the Gregorio Marañón General University Hospital, Dr. Abigail Huertas, entitled “Current situation, challenges and opportunities in the diagnosis and approach of autism in public health”.

This conference will take place next Friday, April 5 at the “La Lonja” Auditorium at 6:00 p.m. with free admission until capacity is reached. Likewise, the councilor for Social Welfare explained that this conference “is aimed at professionals in social and health intervention, family members of people with ASD and students of related degrees.”
