Liverpool already had the sheep in the Champions League on dry land. After a 15 out of 15, the first place in group B was already in. Still, the English national champion was eager for another victory. Liverpool could become the first English team to win all its group matches in the Champions League.
Jürgen Klopp had a basic place left for Divock Origi before that. The Belgian striker was allowed to start for the 4th time this season. At Milan, which was still counting on the next round, Alexis Saelemaekers had to make peace with a place on the bench.
Yet it was Liverpool who were eagerly looking for a goal. Williams once fired a shot into the hands of goalkeeper Maignan. The goal literally fell from the sky on the other side. Alisson Becker, in his 150th match for Liverpool, was able to stop a shot first. Tomori had followed closely and chased the 1-0 against the ropes.
Liverpool, however, were not upset. Origi was still able to test Maignan’s reflexes. A few minutes later, the Milan goalkeeper had been knocked. Oxlade-Chamberlain started a slalom followed by a shot, Salah scored the 1-1 in the restart. Everything to redo for Milan.

After the break, Milan wanted to change things up a bit. After a few minutes, Kessié fell to the ground in the English 16-meter after a push from Tsimikas, but referee Makkelie saw no problem. Then the moment of Divock Origi had arrived. The light went out for a while at Milan defender Kalulu and after a shot by Mané, Origi was able to score. His 6th goal in the Champions League and surprisingly his 1st in the group stage.
Saelemaekers was allowed to come in on the hour. He saw how his compatriot created danger with another header and a shot. About 10 minutes before the end Origi’s successful match was over.
Milan tried, but Kessié missed the chance to make it 2-2. Because Atlético Madrid was going to win in Porto, Milan ends with 4 points as last in group B. Liverpool and Atlético Madrid do go through at the Championship. Porto then has to make peace with the Europa League.
