Ori – Arsenal

In the Yoruba language, Ôrí means “head” and  refers to one’s spiritual intuition and destiny. Through music, dance, gestures and rituals, the film presents an overall look at the history of black movements between 1977 and 1988 in Brazil and examines the common roots between Brazil and Africa. It follows the life of Beatriz Nascimento, a historian and activist who claimed that the quilombos are not only communities that emerge from acts of resistance but also form a counter-narrative to Brazilian nationality.
