The efforts of the Saeima, contrary to the recommendations of specialists, to achieve the presence of hockey fans in the games have caused surprise to the organizers of cultural and entertainment events. Politicians are not so enthusiastic about concerts or theater performances. But if we allow hockey, culture will also want “release”, says TV3 News.
Event organizers sigh about the way the political process takes place. Attempts to allow fans to participate in hockey, in the opinion of the head of the association, are nothing but populism.
“Our industry is confused and tired of how decisions are made in our country, but laughter does not come,” explains Guntis Ērglis-Lācis, Chairman of the Board of the Latvian Event Producers Association.
The organizers of the events follow foreign examples of how to enjoy the culture safely elsewhere, and are ready to take over both the confirmation of the fact of vaccination at the entrance and the quick tests or anything just to allow the industry to operate.
There has still not been enough political support to allow even open-air concerts.
The fact that no one is so enthusiastic about a theater performance or concert as a hockey championship is also acknowledged by a faction that, contrary to the caution of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Health and epidemiologists, joined the opposition in the Saeima.
The Saeima has drawn inspiration from Eurovision, which took place in person. There is no doubt that there is only one such large-scale event in Latvia. There is also a safety test there.
“If this fight for security protocols were a less important event, the Saeima would not be able to reach an agreement. The Hockey Championship is grateful that other sectors have access to information on how to organize events safely, ”says Krišjānis Feldmans, Deputy Chairman of the Saeima faction of the New Conservative Party.
The association agrees that there should be pilot projects, but is hockey really the right format to experiment with?-
The Ministry of Health’s proposal to the government last week was that the vaccinated could be allowed to attend sports and cultural events only from mid-June. It’s coming soon, but the championship will be over.
The fact that politicians, not epidemiologists, have taken the final say on this issue is evidenced by the involvement of the ministries led by the New Conservative Party (JCC) in deciding the issue. Discussions in the government are expected on May 27.
