The issue dates back to 2005, when Q-dance and parent company Qmusic Nederland reached an agreement on the same issue. Q-dance states that with a new show on Saturday full of dance music, Qmusic is violating the agreements that were made at the time.
Q-dance then did not want Qmusic Nederland to use the name Qmusic because it would resemble Q-dance too much. Both parties agreed in a settlement that both names could co-exist, provided Qmusic Netherlands did not actively promote dance music.
“With the start of Qmusic in the Netherlands, an agreement was drawn up 17 years ago to avoid confusion between the organizer of hardstyle dance parties Q-dance and hit radio station Qmusic,” explains a spokesperson for the radio station. “Today there is no confusion whatsoever and that is why we find the complaint of Q-dance unfounded. We even think that the two sides could reinforce each other. We therefore look forward to the judge’s decision with confidence.”
