Organizer ASO bans the public at the finishes of upcoming Tour stages

No public is allowed at the finish of the upcoming stages of the Tour de France. Organizer ASO has decided this now that the Tour will drive through areas that have been given ‘code red’ by the French government due to the corona virus this weekend.

It is unclear whether an audience may not be at the finish during the entire third week of the Tour. The Alps are not ‘code red’, but Paris is.

300 meters from the finish

The ASO is taking the same measure as earlier this year in Paris-Nice, the last major race that was driven before the corona pandemic shut down the sports world. In the spring race, spectators were kept out at three hundred meters from the finish and one hundred meters from the starting podium.

The Tour caravan will drive to Lyon on Saturday. The Dutch government has designated this area as ‘code orange’, comparable to the ‘code red’ issued by the French authorities.

Hustle and bustle on the mountains

The Tour de France in corona time has been a different Tour from the start in Nice than in recent years. Riders, team leaders and journalists all wear face masks and keep their distance from each other as much as possible.
