Organized continue to work on digital format ›Dr. Windows

The fact that the world’s largest games fair, E3, cannot take place in Los Angeles as usual with thousands upon thousands of visitors, will certainly no longer surprise anyone. So let’s combine the confirmation of this fact with the prospect of good news: It seems that this year the E3 will not fail completely, but instead will be organized in a digital format.

The outbreak of the corona pandemic left the organizer Entertainment Software Association (ESA) too little time last year to be able to react appropriately in any way and to be able to plan otherwise. The E3 was therefore completely canceled, but at the same time the planned date for this year was named in April 2020: The game fair is to take place from June 15 to 17 – in a new format.

The Los Angeles Convention Center had, of course, been reserved; a year ago no one could estimate what the situation would be a year later. According to the City of Los Angeles, this reservation has now been canceled. As already said, a large trade fair with visitors remains unimaginable for the foreseeable future, so this is ultimately a pure formality.

The plans to hold E3 as a three-day live streaming event are still being held. At the same time, the question must be asked what relevance the E3 can have in this form. EA, Activision, Sony, Ubisoft – none of them are included. The Xbox team has put on a big E3 show over and over again in recent years, but I assume that at a digital E3 you are more likely to be there than moral support and prefer to organize your own digital gaming event, which better suited to your own release plans.
