Praise for action so far
In the open letter, the organizations praise the actions of politics so far during the corona pandemic and at the same time emphasize that neither the pandemic nor the economic, societal and social challenges have been overcome.

Continue to offset the consequences of the pandemic
Cuts would be the wrong signal to the people in Saxony and could fundamentally damage the trust in the political institutions, which has been acquired with difficulty, the letter continues. Rather, politics should continue on the path of offsetting the consequences of the pandemic.
The initiators of the letter are the DGB Sachsen, the Paritätische Wohlfahrtsverband in Sachsen as well as the Kinder- und Jugendring, the Landesverband Soziokultur and the victim counseling RAA.

Discussions about the Saxon budget
There is still a need for further discussion about the new Saxon budget. The SPD recently adopted a position paper that proposes a fund for the Free State. The fund called “Sachsen 2050” is intended to pay for long-term investments. The SPD had also brought up a new debt issue. “Loans for important future investments in our infrastructure shouldn’t be taboo,” said parliamentary group leader Dirk Panter. This is especially true in times of low and negative interest rates.
Minister of Social Affairs Petra Köpping complained in an interview with the “Sächsische Zeitung” at the beginning of October about the current state of budget negotiations. She considers the planned cuts in the social area to be unreasonable, especially in the corona pandemic. The youth allowance alone is to be cut by more than 20 percent, according to Köpping. That is irresponsible, said Köpping.

CDU against debt
The CDU parliamentary group in the state parliament called further borrowing irresponsible and recalled that new debt of up to six billion euros had already been initiated this year to mitigate the consequences of the corona crisis. Further loans would jeopardize future room for maneuver and would be at the expense of future generations, according to the Christian Democrats.

The first reading on the double budget is to take place on December 16 in the Saxon state parliament. The budget decision is planned for the end of April 2021.
