How do the nominations work?
The Golden Calf, the Grand Prize of Dutch Film, has been awarded annually since 1981 to, among others, the best Dutch filmmakers, screenwriters, producers and actors.
The Netherlands Film Festival (NFF) and the Dutch Academy For Film (DAFF) work together to nominate the actors within categories of Best Leading and Best Supporting Actor. Voting is then done via the ‘Academy model’, which is also used at the Oscars. Colleagues of the nominees vote for who they think should win.
Hundreds of film professionals are entitled to vote, including Golden Calf winners since 1981, Dutch winners of top prizes in the international film circuit and members of the Dutch Academy For Film. When asked, the NFF was unable to provide any details about the composition of the panel.
