Organizations denounce the blocking of new social housing projects

They denounced Wednesday that their projects submitted as part of the initiative for the rapid creation of social housing have been massively refused.

Martin Bécotte, Director General of the Regional Federation of Housing Non-Profits of Montérégie and Estrie, criticizes the fact that the $ 115 million transferred by the federal government to Quebec is used for other projects.

The money is dedicated to projects that have already been announced in previous budgets.

Mr. Bécotte affirms that new projects on the south shore of Montreal cannot see the light of day because of these political blockages.

The FROHME project, if it had been accepted, would have allowed 26 housing units to be put on the market on the south shore of Montreal on 1is July 2021

FM 103.3 is awaiting a response from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation as well as from the Société d’habitation du Québec, the financial backer for these social housing projects.
