After the first two free practice sessions, many drivers expressed their criticism of the asphalt of the circuit. Lewis Hamilton was the most critical, calling the new asphalt a waste of money and speaking of a disastrous day and terrifying circumstances. Other drivers were also not really pleased with the conditions on the track, although some drivers had to admit that it was also fun to slide around like this, a comparison was often made with an ice rink.

To overcome this problem and in an effort to get the tarmac in better condition for tomorrow’s qualifying, the Turkish Grand Prix organizers decided it was a good idea to send a collection of road cars onto the track to do laps to drive. This should ensure that there is more rubber on the road surface, making the track less slippery tomorrow. According to Rob van Gameren, it now looks as though several cars will continue to drive around in Istanbul all night long. Whether this approach ultimately works, the drivers will see tomorrow.
