Organs are in demand – and rare. If you need one, you often need a lot of patience. And luck. Because there are still far too few donor organs available. A total of 1,462 people are currently waiting for one or more organs in Switzerland. For a donor heart alone, the waiting time is over a year on average. This time horizon is too long for some. Every week one or two people die in this country who are on the waiting list for a new organ.
