Awards for the mystery thriller series “Freud” and “Universum” production “Olimba – Queen of the Leopards”
Vienna (OTS) – After a world premiere at the Berlinale, a Romy award and an award at the Berlin Series Festival, Marvin Krens “Freud” was able to convince the jury in the USA: With a “Gold” (Crime Drama / Entertainment Program), a “Silver “(Best Direction / Craft: Program) and a” Bronze Award “(Best Production Design / Art Direction / Craft: Program) went three times to the ORF / Netflix mystery thriller series at the renowned New York festivals TV & Film Awards emerged as a winner. In the “Documentary: Nature & Wildlife” category, the ORF nature film brand “Universum” can look forward to another award:
The documentary “Olimba – Queen of the Leopards” received the “Silver Award” at the New York Festivals. ORF sports journalist Toni Oberndorfer was among the finalists with his documentary “Die Tuchscherer”.
Triple award for ORF / Netflix mystery thriller series “Freud”
In the eight-part ORF / Netflix mystery thriller event of the same name, Robert Finster slips into the role of “Freud” (ORF 1 premiere: March 15-22, 2020) and shows one of Austria’s most important personalities in a completely new light – restless, dazzling and on the trail of a murderous conspiracy that keeps Austria in suspense. Ella Rumpf and Georg Friedrich can be seen at Finster’s side. Directed by Marvin Kren, who, together with Benjamin Hessler and Stefan Brunner, is also responsible as a screenwriter and also as an executive producer. A co-production by Satel Film and Bavaria Fiction for ORF and Netflix, with support from the Vienna Film Fund, the Austrian Television Fund and the Creative Europe – Media Program of the European Union and the Czech State Fund for Cinematography. ZDF Enterprises takes over international sales.
Silver Award for “Universum” production “Olimba – Queen of the Leopards”
The celebrated South African nature filmmaker duo Will and Lianne Steenkamp, known among other things for the multiple award-winning “Universum” two-part series “The Desert Lions of the Namib”, can perform with “Olimba – Queen of the Leopards” (ORF 2 premiere on October 13, 2020) Another great international success: for three years the Steenkamps lived and filmed on the banks of the Luangwa – a river about 800 kilometers long, most of which flows in Zambia. Day after day they followed every movement of a female leopard in a specially adapted off-road vehicle and filmed the daily routine of the survival of this big cat at close range. They called the leopard “Olimba”, which means “courage and strength” in the local language. A coproduction of the Viennese Kurt Mayer Film and Into Nature Productions, ORF, ARTE and WDR in cooperation with ORF-Enterprise.
ORF documentary “Die Tuchscherer” among the finalists
ORF sports journalist Toni Oberndorfer was also represented at the New York Festivals with his documentary “Die Tuchscherer”, which was shown in 2019 as part of “Sport am Sonntag” and won the Austrian Sports Journalist Award last year. In the film, Oberndorfer addressed the escape of the former GDR ski jumper Claus Tuchscherer, who defected at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck and later competed for the ÖSV.
