OAKRIDGE, Pray. – Forecasters have issued a winter storm warning for heavy snowfall in Oregon’s Cascades Mountains, effective from noon Thursday through Saturday morning.
“Total snow accumulations of 15 to 30 inches, with even more intense accumulations at elevations above 3,000 feet,” reported the Portland National Weather Service. “Winds with gusts of up to 45 mph are also likely at higher elevations.”
Snow accumulation in the Cascades Mountains of Washington state is forecast to be even more intense with up to four feet of snow in Mount Rainier National Park.
“Expect poor driving conditions in the mountain passes, with roads covered in snow, ice and poor visibility. The combination of snowfall and high winds could also result in trees and downed power lines,” forecasters said. “If you must travel, be prepared, have an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of emergency.”
