Orbán’s extreme statements arouse the condemnation of European politicians

“We [ungāri] we are not a mixed race… and we don’t want to become a mixed race,” Orbán said on Saturday. He added that countries where Europeans and non-Europeans mix “are no longer nations.”

It is known that Orban has made similar statements for years, but this time what he said was particularly offensive.

Hungarian opposition party Momentum MP Katalina Cech said she was shocked by the Prime Minister’s speech. “His remarks are reminiscent of times that I think we would all like to forget. They really show the true colors of the regime,” she said.

The Czech addressed people of mixed race in Hungary: “Your skin color may be different, you may come from Europe or outside, but you are one of us and we are proud of you. Diversity strengthens a nation, not weakens it.”

The Romanian member of the European Parliament, Alin Mitus, also expressed his indignation at Orban’s comments: “Talking about race or ethnic ‘purity’, especially in such a mixed region as Central and Eastern Europe, is misleading and dangerous. And Mr. Orban is like that.”

In his speech, Orbán also predicted the decline of the West and prophesied a “decade of danger, uncertainty and war”. He also sharply criticized the West’s military support for Ukraine, positioning himself as Moscow’s main ally in the European Union.

“The more advanced weapons NATO gives to the Ukrainians, the more the Russians will advance the front… What we are doing is prolonging the war,” Orbán said.

As Orbán claimed, “the war would not have broken out if Donald Trump was the leader of the United States and Angela Merkel was the chancellor of Germany.”

Oleh Nikolenko, press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, has already stated that he does not agree with Orban’s theses and that the sanctions “have significantly reduced the capabilities of the Russian war machine to wage war against Ukraine.”

“It is futile to hope that concessions or adjustments will contribute to the fact that the Kremlin will moderate its aggressive appetite,” the official emphasized. Nikolenko also expressed confidence that Ukraine will win with the support of the EU.
