Belgian club Gent’s 20-year-old Gift Orban set a rare record in European club football yesterday. Three goals scored between minutes went down in history. Nigerian Orban’s brilliant performance was against the Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir in the UEFA Conference League, the third tier club championship in Europe.
Orban scored the first goal in the 31st minute and completed the hat trick in the 34th minute. In between, the elapsed time was only 205 seconds. Orban scored the fastest hat-trick in European club football. Ghent won the match 4-1 and reached the quarters with a 5-2 win over both legs.
This is Orban’s second hat-trick in four days. The other day, he scored 4 goals in a match in the Belgian Pro League. He scored 12 goals in 9 matches after coming to Ghent from Norwegian club Stabak.
