Orban secured two-thirds of the parliament

BUDAPEST / BRUSSELS (Aftenposten): Just before midnight, Hungary’s controversial Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, declared that he had won the election and could start his fourth term.

He is now the leader in Europe who has been in power the longest.

Before the election, the biggest uncertainty was whether Orban and his party, Fidesz, would achieve a so-called “super majority”, ie a two-thirds majority. It gives the party the right to change the constitution.
