There can be peace only if America and Russia reach an agreement. This was stated by the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for the German magazine “Cicero”. However, he has no hope of this in current US President Joe Biden, writes News BG.
Orban has called for talks between the US and Russia on a ceasefire in Ukraine, relying on former US President Donald Trump, who stepped down two years ago, to do so.
“The ceasefire should not be reached between Russia and Ukraine, but between America and Russia”, stressed the Hungarian prime minister. “Anyone who thinks that this war will end through the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations does not live in this world. The reality of power is different,” he stated categorically.
According to Orban, Ukraine can defend itself against Russian invaders only because it receives military support from the United States. The war, he said, was opened today because the Americans demanded that it be. “That’s why the Americans have to come to an agreement with the Russians. And then the war will end,” he summed up.
However, Orbán does not think US President Joe Biden is the right negotiator on the American side. In his words, the American president went too far. Biden has said such things about Russian President Vladimir Putin that the two can hardly negotiate for peace, he is convinced.
What I’m about to say will sound brutal, but the hope for peace is called Donald Trump, Orbán said.
Recall that after the war began, Biden called Putin a “butcher”, a “war criminal” and a “murderous dictator”.
In an interview with the Berliner Zeitung, Orbán said that when the war itself began, he only thought about Hungarians, including those in Ukraine. He recalls that on February 5 he was in Moscow and spoke with Putin, and the Russian president gave a very good evaluation of the Ukrainian army.
According to Orbán, there was already the danger of a full-scale war in 2014, but this was prevented by Angela Merkel and thanks to her negotiating skills. At the moment Merkel is no longer there and that is why she has come to this, the leader of Fidesz underlined.
