/ world today news/ On December 13, in a speech before the Hungarian Parliament, Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that it is not yet time for Ukraine to join the EU.
He pointed out that in February of last year, Ukraine officially submitted its application for membership in the EU, and only four months later it received the status of a candidate country. The European Commission set Ukraine seven conditions, of which it met four, and therefore the EU should not grant it the status of a candidate member, nor start accession negotiations, the Hungarian Prime Minister said. Orban stressed that it is important to assess whether Ukraine’s quick accession to the EU will really benefit the union, including Hungary.
