Orange Vigilance in Western Departments: Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected

Five western departments are still affected by orange vigilance this Sunday, October 29. Heavy showers, accompanied by strong gusts of wind, are expected in the wake of Storm Céline.

The weather this Sunday, October 29 will be marked in particular by sometimes stormy rain on a New-Aquitaine-Grand-Est diagonal and by sustained winds. Five departments are placed in vigilance orange for floods and waves-submersion by Météo-France.

Vendée is in orange for wave-submersion risks, while Charente-Maritime, Gironde, Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques are subject to raw orange vigilance.

Météo-France lifted the orange rain-flood vigilance at midday, which concerned Deux-Sèvres, Vienne, Charente-Maritime and Charente.

Strong waves

An active rain band will stagnate for a large part of the day on a diagonal going from the north of New Aquitaine to the Grand-Est, linked to storm Céline, off the coast of Ireland, specifies the meteorological institute.

“Southwest winds persist over the Bay of Biscay and the English Channel, associated with an active trolling regime, and maintain the strong waves, breaking on the Atlantic coast and the English Channel,” adds Météo-France.
