Orange County Judge Arrested for Shooting Death of Wife in Anaheim Hills Home: Latest Updates

LOS ANGELES – An Orange County judge has been arrested in the shooting death of his wife at their home in Anaheim Hills, California.

Police responded Thursday, around 8 p.m., to the home of Jeffrey Ferguson, 72, an Orange County Superior Court judge, following a report of a shooting at the residence.

Officers found 65-year-old Sheryl Ferguson with at least one gunshot wound inside the home. The woman died at the scene.

“Our thoughts are with the family,” Orange County Superior Court Presiding Judge Maria Hernandez said in a statement Friday morning.

“We pray for your comfort during this difficult time,” Hernandez said. “Although no case has been brought before our court, where appropriate, we will take all necessary steps to ensure full compliance with our legal and ethical obligations. As this is a pending matter that is still under investigation, the court is unable to provide further information at this time.”

Ferguson was arrested at the location in the 8500 block of East Canyon Vista Drive. He is being held on $1 million bail.

According to the North Orange County Bar Association, Ferguson spent more than three decades with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, during which time he worked as part of the Major Narcotics Enforcement Team.

He currently serves as a judge on the Orange County Superior Court, a position he has held since 2015.
