Orange Carpet work tens of millions more expensive

The costs of the work between Dam Square and Mercatorplein, also known as the Oranje Loper, are much higher than estimated. According to traffic alderman Egbert de Vries, the project will cost about 85 million euros.

He said that this morning in the committee meeting at the Stopera. The project now has a cost of 201 million euros. Initially, that was 116 million euros, but De Vries already mentioned an amount of 154 million for the summer.

He could not yet explain the reason for the cost increase. According to a spokesperson, the council will be informed about this by letter. The project includes the renovation of nine bridges. The streets will also be renovated and there will be more space for cyclists, pedestrians, public transport and greenery.
