The explosion occurred around midnight last Wednesday, in the city of San Ramón de la Nueva Orán.
According to the assistant federal prosecutor María del Carmen Núñezin charge of the investigation of the incident, reported that the car stopped at the service station located on Palacios Avenue, a few meters from the San Vicente de Paul Hospital.
A woman and three children, ages 9, 13 and 14, were traveling in the vehicle. The driver is a member of the Buenos Aires Provincial Police, who had arrived in Oran from the city of Corrientes and stayed in a hotel.
On Wednesday at 11:30 p.m. he stopped to refill gas, when the strong explosion occurred, revealing several packages of drugs, like “bricks” that were hidden inside the gas tube. With the explosion, part of the drug spread through the air, however, an approximate weight of just over 20 kilos of cocaine.
The driver was immediately detained and is now housed in Squadron 20 of the National Gendarmerie in Oran. Furthermore, and as a result of the explosion, one of the minors traveling with the police, 13 years old, suffered an injury to one of his eyeswhich led to his attendance at the hospital, although it was not serious.
The Decentralized Fiscal Headquarters of Oran, headed by prosecutor José Luis Bruno, is carrying out the investigation into the Ford Fiesta car that was transporting drugs in a gas tube, which exploded when it was loaded at a service station in that city.
The assistant prosecutor María del Carmen Núñez reported that the hearing to formalize the criminal investigation has already been requested, in order to make the corresponding criminal accusation. In this case, the federal judge of Guarantees of Oran will intervene, Gustavo Montoya.
Regarding other details, the assistant prosecutor declined to provide further details while waiting for the formalization hearing, an opportunity in which she said that other evidence will be presented, and where the detained woman will be able to make her defense.
As for the three children, they were left in the care of their father, who showed up after the explosion and took responsibility for them.
