Investigations are underway following an attack on surveyors and security staff who were examining a site in Carlow, Ireland, for modular homes intended to house Ukrainian refugees who have fled the conflict in Eastern Ukraine. Four men attacked the surveyors and staff, who were there on behalf of the Irish Office of Public Works (OPW). One man was hospitalised after he was hit on the head with a rock. Three vehicles outside the Carrigbrook estate and Willow Park were damaged. The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth which plans to build the homes said the matter was being dealt with by the relevant authorities. Two protests were later held opposing and supporting the proposals. Éire New opposed development, and Carlow For All held a solidarity rally with refugees. No arrests have been made.
