Optional use of mask: which places reached 80% vaccination with three doses | News

The Council of Ministers approved today that the use of masks will be optional in places where the third dose of the vaccine against covid-19 reaches or exceeds 80%.

In this regard, the Minister of Health, Jorge López, explained that the measure may be applied in Metropolitan Lima and Callao, Lima province, Ica and Ancash.

In these places, the progress of vaccination is greater than 80% in the third dose, in those over 60 years of age and more than 80% in those over 12 years of age. “In open places, people who want to will be able to use the mask,” López said.

– Last Monday, the executive director of Public Health Surveillance (CDC), Cesar Munayco advanced that the Ministry of Health would issue a proposal this week on the removal of masks in open places, which would be linked to the level of vaccination coverage against covid-19.-

The Medical College of Peru (CMP) immediately pronounced itself proposing that, if it is planned to withdraw the use of the mask in open spaces, a pilot plan should be started and gradually in the regions that register at least 80% of the population vaccinated with the two doses against covid-19.

The doctor Raúl Urquizo, dean of the CMP, said that there are few departments that meet these conditions, such as Metropolitan Lima, Lima provinces, Áncash, Callao and Ica, the rest are below that parameter; while another group of regions, including Puno, Madre de Dios and Ucayali, does not reach 65% of those immunized.-

“In open sites, where 80% of vaccination is completed, it is recommended that it be done gradually, but with a slightly stricter control. What we have proposed is that a pilot be made, so that we do not have problems, ”he said.

At today’s press conference, Prime Minister Torres also reported that it was also agreed to return all public servants to face-to-face work in those places where more than 80 percent of the population have been vaccinated with the three doses.

He added that it is necessary to return to face-to-face work because customer service must be carried out correctly, since said activity is difficult with remote work.
